How to Talk to Strangers, Soft Animal Series #2: The Summer Challenge [Ep. 12]

listen on spotify, apple, and more!

Here’s what you can expect from this episode:

We’re talking to strangers this Summer. I know! Stranger danger!!! It’s shoved down our throats from the moment we step out of the wound (strut). But ya’ll…it’s actually sad to live in the same building for three years and not know your neighbors. I’m calling myself out here if you can’t tell. I recently declared this my Hot Girl Summer but it’s super unhot to have eyes down, headphones in all day everyday. If you’re work from home like me, you need this challenge just as much as I do.

Here are the rules

  • We’re talking to at least ONE stranger 45 days in a row

  • This can’t include transactional interactions (unless you bring it beyond the transaction

  • This also doesn’t include a passing “hi!” on the street (unless that expands to a conversation)

  • We’re taking notes!! How did you start the conversation? What was the person like?

I get it, some of you talk to strangers everyday already! You’re either better at existing than me or you have a job that requires it. As a former waitress, I never would have needed a challenge like this while working in restaurants. But now I do! So I challenge you to shed that teenage non-challance and actually exercise your curiosity muscles. I know it’s scary - strangers are unpredictable. They may not be open to engage. They may be creepy. They may laugh in your face and say “EW! Who are you!? What makes you think you can talk to ME!” Or maybe that’s just in my nightmares (hopefully).

This is going to be hard for me. If it’s going to be easy for you, keep that to yourself LOL. And check out the resources below if you need that extra little kick in the butt to get it done!
